Privacy Policy

Jide Chinese (“we”, “us”) is a Mandarin vocabulary app at jidechinese.com. This policy explains what we collect when you use it, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.

What we collect

Account details. Your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive the name, email and profile picture on your Google account. If you use a password, it is stored only in hashed form by our sign-in provider; we never see it.
Your study data. Your decks, words, review history, progress, streaks, settings, readings and test results, so the app works and syncs across your devices.
What you send to the AI features. When you use features like Readers, sentence checking or translations, the text involved (for example your answer, a passage you paste, or the words a story should use) is sent to our AI provider (DeepSeek) to create the response.
Basic usage counts. How many AI requests your account made each day, so we can apply fair daily limits.
Technical data. Like any website, our hosting and service providers receive standard information such as your IP address and browser type when you load the site.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
We don’t show ads, and we don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
We don’t record your voice. Speaking practice uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition, which may send audio to your browser maker’s speech service (for example Google, in Chrome). We only receive the resulting text, and we don’t store it.

How we use it

To run the app: create and secure your account, save and sync your study data, schedule reviews, generate AI content you ask for, keep the service reliable and prevent abuse, and reply when you contact us.

Services we rely on

We use a small number of providers who process data for us under their own privacy and security terms:

Supabase: accounts, sign-in and the database that stores your study data.
Vercel: website hosting.
DeepSeek (Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd.): the AI model behind AI features such as Readers, sentence feedback and mock tests. Text you send through these features is processed on DeepSeek’s servers in China under DeepSeek’s own terms. Don’t include personal information in text you paste or write for AI features.
Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google”.
jsDelivr: delivers some of the code libraries the site loads.

Your data may be processed in the United States, China and other countries where these providers operate.

Storage on your device

The app saves your sign-in and a copy of your study data in your browser’s local storage so it loads quickly and works on a weak connection. Signing out clears the study copy from that browser.

Keeping, exporting and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account is open. You can export your decks at any time from the app’s Export screen. To delete your account and all of its data, email us at jidechinese@outlook.com from the address on your account and we’ll do it within 30 days.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and each account can only read and write its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect yours.

Children

Jide Chinese is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above, and for important changes we’ll let you know in the app or by email.
